My first Japanese sensei (Ebira Takashi Sensei said) was a linguist from Japan. He told us that the word for bread - pan - was actually taken from Portuguese, not Spanish. He also said that "Moshi Moshi" literally means "I humbly speak" but most people - even most Japanese - do not realize this.
